The Shops of Bal Harbour are very upscale. This is one exclusive mall. There is a deluxe collection of retailers. Being predominantly a luxurious mall with exclusive boutiques, Bal Harbour Shops is not very family friendly. Entertainment is clearly not one of the attractions of the mall. It is mainly boutique-centered. The mall is internationally renowned, so it is a destination itself. Bal Harbour Shops is one of the first open-air malls, opened in 1964. Bal Harbour Shops is one of the few malls still owned by a family. The property belongs to the Whitman family. The mall was built on some World War II army barracks.
